My Words Log Privacy Policy
# My Words Log Privacy Policy
**Effective Date:** June 29, 2026
**Last Updated:** June 29, 2026
## 1. Introduction
My Words Log ("the App") is a multilingual vocabulary organiser designed to help K-12 learners build and review vocabulary in any language. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it uses that information, and the choices you have.
By installing or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
---
## 2. Information We Collect
### 2.1 Information you provide
When you use the App you may enter:
| Data | Where it is stored |
|---|---|
| Your native (home) language preference | Local device only |
| Vocabulary books you create (title, language, cover design) | Local device only |
| Word entries (word, definition, example sentence, optional translation) | Local device only |
| Quiz results and practice history | Local device only |
| Personalisation settings (words per page, books per page, speech rate) | Local device only |
**None of this information is transmitted to our servers or any third-party server controlled by us.** It lives entirely on your device in a local SQLite database (Android / iOS) or browser-based storage (web / PWA). If you uninstall the App, this data is deleted along with it.
### 2.2 Information collected automatically by third-party SDKs
The App uses **Google AdMob** to display advertisements. Because the App is directed at children under 13, AdMob is configured with **child-directed treatment enabled** (`tagForChildDirectedTreatment = true`). Under this configuration, Google serves only **non-personalised, contextual ads** and does not use advertising IDs or behavioural profiling for ad targeting.
Even under child-directed treatment, AdMob may still collect:
- Device type and operating system version
- IP address (used to infer general location such as country or region, for ad delivery and fraud prevention)
- App usage data related to ad serving
This data is collected by Google, not by us, and is subject to [Google's Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy) and [Google's Families Policy](https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/9893335).
### 2.3 Text-to-Speech (TTS)
The App offers an optional audio pronunciation feature powered by your **device's built-in text-to-speech engine** (e.g., Google TTS on Android, Apple TTS on iOS). Words are passed to the on-device TTS engine and are not sent to our servers. Depending on your device and engine version, some TTS engines may make network calls to download language packs; this is governed by your device manufacturer's or engine provider's privacy policy, not ours.
---
## 3. How We Use Information
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Saving and displaying your vocabulary books and progress | Contractual necessity — providing the service you requested |
| Remembering your language and display preferences | Contractual necessity |
| Displaying non-personalised advertisements through AdMob (child-directed) | Legitimate interest — funding free access to the App |
We do **not** use your vocabulary data to profile you, train AI models, or share with advertisers.
---
## 4. Children's Privacy
My Words Log is **directed at children under the age of 13** and is designed to be safe and appropriate for K-12 learners of all ages.
**The App itself does not collect personal information from children.** All vocabulary, quiz, and preference data is stored locally on the device and never transmitted to our servers.
**Advertising:** AdMob is configured with child-directed treatment (`tagForChildDirectedTreatment = true`). This means:
- **No personalised or interest-based advertising** is served.
- **No Advertising ID (GAID / IDFA) is used** for behavioural targeting.
- Ads shown are contextual only, in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Google Play Families Policy, and equivalent regulations in other jurisdictions.
**Parental guidance:** Parents and guardians are encouraged to review this policy and supervise the device. The App does not include social features, in-app purchases, external links, or any mechanisms for children to share personal information.
If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us inadvertently, please contact us at garados2002@gmail.com and we will take prompt steps to address it.
---
## 5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do **not** sell, rent, trade, or share your personal vocabulary data with any third party.
We may disclose information only in the following limited circumstances:
- **Legal requirement:** If required by law, court order, or government authority.
- **Safety:** If disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of users or the public.
- **Google AdMob:** As described in Section 2.2 above, AdMob collects data under its own privacy policy. We do not control what Google does with ad-related data.
---
## 6. Data Retention and Deletion
All vocabulary data is retained on your device until you delete it yourself (within the App) or uninstall the App. The App does not sync data to any cloud service, so we have no copy of your data to delete on request.
To delete all your data:
1. Use the App's built-in delete functions to remove individual books or words, **or**
2. Uninstall the App from your device — this removes the local database entirely.
For ad-related data held by Google, please refer to Google's data controls at [myaccount.google.com](https://myaccount.google.com).
---
## 7. Security
All data is stored locally on your device. We do not transmit vocabulary data over the internet, which significantly reduces exposure to data breaches. The local SQLite database is stored without encryption in the default configuration; physical access to an unlocked device would allow access to the database file.
We rely on the operating system's standard app sandboxing to protect stored data from other apps.
---
## 8. Permissions
The App may request the following permissions:
| Permission | Reason |
|---|---|
| Internet access | Required by AdMob to serve advertisements |
| Read/write external storage (Android ≤ 9) | Required by the SQLite plugin on older Android versions |
| Speech recognition / TTS engine | Required for audio pronunciation playback |
| Internet access (iOS / Android) | Required by AdMob to serve non-personalised ads |
You can revoke most permissions in your device's Settings at any time. Revoking internet access will prevent ads from loading but will not affect vocabulary features.
---
## 9. International Users
The App is intended for use globally. All vocabulary data stays on your device. AdMob data is processed by Google according to its global data processing terms.
If you are located in the **European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland**, Google is required to present a consent notice under the EU User Consent Policy before serving personalised ads. The AdMob SDK handles this automatically via Google's Consent Management Platform (CMP) framework.
If you are located in **Malaysia**, this policy is made in compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA). We do not collect or process your personal data on our servers.
---
## 10. Third-Party Links and Services
The App does not contain links to external websites. Third-party advertisements shown by AdMob may contain links to advertisers' websites; those sites are governed by their own privacy policies.
---
## 11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the **Effective date** at the top of this document and, for material changes, notify you through an in-app notice or the Google Play Store listing.
Continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
